"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17)
15/08/2008 - A One World Government

"And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." (Genesis 11:6)

With all the talk and news coverage concerning the olympic games, I thought I should write a blog about a trend that is gathering momentum in our world - the unification of nations into a One World Government. The idea is a world of peace with no nations and no borders. Right now the European Union is at the forefront of this unification. Other unions include the African Union and most recently, the proposed Mediterranean Union. This video supports rumours that a proposed North American Union is even in the works.

The Scripture at the top of this blog is a reference to the people at the time the Tower of Babel was built. Here it is represented in a painting by Peiter Brueghel.

Now take a look at this poster promoting the European Union. What do you see?

How about that slogan, "Many tongues, one voice."

Also consider what was built for the EU Parliament.

Do you see a pattern? You may be asking why this is so significant. Well, in the book of Genesis, the Babylonian ruler Nimrod led the construction of the Tower of Babel and the formation of a one-world political and false religious system in a proud and arrogant rebellion against God. The Lord stepped in for our own good, scattered the people and confounded the tongues (languages) as a judgment on their rebellion. Today, we're seeing nations coming together and a return to a system like that of the Tower of Babel.

Ask yourself, why would the EU promote itself as pursuing something clearly condemned by God and return to the rebellion at the Tower of Babel?

If you look around, you'll see the "One World" theme is being promoted all around us. One of the slogans of the olympic games is "One World, One Dream". The olympics are used as a way to bring nations together using sports. We also see this in disaster films where mankind comes together to save the day, in music like John Lennon's blasphemous Imagine and in politics where many nations are collaborating to promote the idea of a globalized New World Order. Today, we see the One Word theme in the campaign of US presidential candidate Barack Obama. Here, one of his music videos starts with the phrase "We are one" and in Barack's speech in Berlin he said, "That is why the greatest danger of all is to allow new walls to divide us from one another. The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down."

He also said, "This is the moment when we must come together to save this planet."

But what is really behind this unification of the world? Is this a move of God and for the greater good of mankind? Thankfully, God gave us prophecies concerning what would come to pass in the last days.

God's Word warns of a coming global kingdom that will reign before the return of Jesus Christ. It will be led by one man, who the Bible calls the Beast or Man of Sin. You may have also heard him referred to as the Antichrist. His kingdom may start off peacefully but he will ultimately unleash the most horrible period of persecution and murder unlike the world has ever seen. In my previous blog, I wrote about a One World Religion led by the False Prophet. Here we see the political side, a One World Government led by the Beast.

The Book of Revelation describes the power this man will have.

"And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations." (
Revelation 13:7)

As mentioned in the previous blog, he may come as a peacemaker but his peace will be used to destroy many.

"And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand." (
Daniel 8:23-25)

He will also rule with ten lesser kings. As mentioned above, today we see the world coming together in several economic and trans-national unions. In the 1970's the Club of Rome divided the world into ten economic regions.

With these unions coming together today, is this a coincidence or are we seeing the fullfillment of Bible prophecy before our eyes?

"And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast." (
Revelation 17:12)

This is the problem, the peace this world pursues as it comes together into a One World Government is not peace with God.

Listen to the words of Jesus:

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (
John 14:27)

Without Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for our sins, there is no peace with God. The peace of this world is a peace sitting in the shadow of God's judgment on sin.

"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." (
1 Thessalonians 5:3)

For two excellent documentaries concerning the Biblical End Times prophecies and the world we live in today, watch the Megiddo films in the Videos section.

Thankfully, this coming global kingdom will be destroyed at the return of Jesus Christ. When He returns, He will reign as a righteous and holy King. While this fallen world looks for an earthly saviour with the answers to the world's problems, there is only one true Saviour, who reigns on High.

"Father, please bring a revival to this dying world. I ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen."
