Ye Must Be Born Again
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Matthew 7:21-23)
This is a verse that should challenge the Christian.
Here, Jesus foretells a day when many will stand before Him in judgment. The Bible says many will call Him Lord because they know who He is but they are turned away because they were never saved and Jesus never knew them.
Today, there are people who believe in Jesus or try to live by a set of Christian values, however it is either a head knowledge of Jesus or they are depending on their works for salvation. They still don't know Him as their personal Saviour.
The Bible tells us that one can know they are saved and forgiven. For this to happen, Jesus said we must be born again.
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." (John 3:3-5)
The new birth is spiritual and of God. All of us are born physically but the Bible says we're also born spiritually dead and separated from God. Since the fall in the Garden, we have inherited a sinful nature from Adam and put us under God's eternal condemnation..
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Romans 5:12)
This is why the new birth is absolutely necessary to be saved. The Bible says when we're born again our sins are forgiven, we receive eternal life and we're reconciled to God through the Holy Spirit.
God has given us a test so we can examine ourselves.
"Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" (2 Corinthians 13:5)
Today, will you consider His question? Have you come a place of humble repentance and faith in Jesus to save you? Do you see the Holy Spirit working in your life?
The Bible makes it clear that our salvation cannot be earned through works or religion. God is holy and sin is too serious. The only way of salvation was for the innocent to die for the guilty. Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and took our sins on Himself.
We can praise God for the good news is that the Bible declares He will save all who to come to Him for salvation.
"All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." (John 6:37)
