Its the most important question you can ask yourself - are you certain Heaven is your home? How would you know?
To answer this, let's look at what God has said in the Holy Bible.
The Creator
It is in the Bible where we learn about the LORD.
He is our Creator.
"By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth." (Psalm 33:6)
He is Holy.
"The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works." (Psalm 145:17)
He is Eternal.
"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God." (Psalm 90:2)
He is Triune.
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." (1 John 5:7)
We have His Word.
"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever." (Psalm 12:6-7)
The Creation and Fall
The Bible tells us that in the beginning the LORD God created the heavens, the earth and everything in them, very good. The first two people, Adam and Eve, lived in the Garden of Eden where there was no death and the creation was all vegetarian.
"And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." (Genesis 1:31)
God gave them one command to obey.
"And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:16-17)
Man was created to honour and glorify God and we were living in a loving fellowship.
"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." (Revelation 4:11)
The serpent in the Garden tempted Eve to eat from the tree and she and Adam broke God's only command. Man rebelled against God and this act brought sin, death and suffering into the world. Mankind died spiritually and became separated from God.
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned" (Romans 5:12)
Today, we are surrounded by the beauty of God's creation but also the effects of living in a fallen and sinful world.
The Bible also describes spiritual deception in our world, brought on by the old serpent, Satan.
"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Revelation 12:9)
The Bible says the LORD has not abandoned us and reigns from Heaven.
However, He cannot dwell with sin.
"For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee." (Psalm 5:4)
And one day all will stand before Him.
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27)
On that day will we pass God's judgment?
"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?" (1 Corinthians 6:9a)
The Bad News
Long ago, God gave His Law to Moses. The Ten Commandments are God's standard of righteousness.
Here is a short test on five of them.
(Second Commandment) "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them"
Have you ever worshipped an idol?
(Third Commandment) "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain."
Have you ever misused God's Name?
(Fifth Commandment) "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee."
Have you ever been dishonourable to your father or mother?
(Eighth Commandment) "Thou shalt not steal."
Have you ever stolen?
(Ninth Commandment) "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."
Have you ever lied?
Be honest, have you kept God's Law?
The Bible also says sin is a failure to do good when we know we should...
"Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." (James 4:17)
...and God even knows the hidden secrets of our heart.
"Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart." (Psalm 44:21)
The Bible says:
"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10)
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)
The Bible warns:
"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." (Ezekiel 18:20)
The penalty and end result of sin is death. Not only physical death but eternal death in Hell.
"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Revelation 20:15)
The Good News
That is not God's will. The Bible says God loves us and He is not willing that any perish.
"The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy" (Psalm 103:8)
However, He always does what is right. He cannot lie, He cannot sin and He is faithful and true. For this reason, the Bible says we cannot earn God's forgiveness through our own efforts.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
It is offered as a free gift but it came at a great cost. This is the Gospel, which means good news.
Over two thousand years ago, God came into the world in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made...He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:1-3, 10-14)
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin woman. Our Creator walked and lived in this world with us.
"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." (Colossians 2:9)
His life was sinless and He did many miracles. He healed the sick, He cleansed the lepers, He gave sight to the blind, He raised the dead to life, He calmed the seas and He forgave sinners. Yet even though Jesus did countless miracles, many rejected Him. Out of love for us, He preached against sin and warned of Hell. He also rebuked the self-righteous religious authorities and it angered them. Many conspired to kill Him and at the end of His life, He was betrayed by one of His disciples and stood before Pontius Pilate and the Roman authorities. Though Pilate could find no fault in Him, they scourged Him, crowned Him with thorns and sent Him out to be crucified. On the cross, Jesus suffered, died and was buried. Yet a great plan was at work.
"Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us" (1 John 3:16a)
Jesus had won a great victory. Three days later, He rose from the dead and defeated the penalty of death forever. On the cross, God the Father laid the sins of the world on His precious, sinless Son.
"And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world." (1 John 2:2)
"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
By dying in our place, Jesus became the bridge back to God so we could be reconciled with Him. His coming fulfilled many Old Testament prophecies written hundreds of years earlier.
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:5-6)
The cross of Jesus Christ demonstrates both God's love for us and His unbending holiness.
The Bible says after Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to many then ascended to Heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father. Today, He still reaches down to save souls and He will come again.
We read that God's forgiveness and eternal life are not found in religion but in the finished work of Jesus Christ.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
(Acts 4:12)
The sin and death that entered the world through Adam, were defeated by Jesus on the cross.
"For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." (Romans 5:19)
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
To receive God's free gift of eternal life, Jesus said we must be born again.
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
(John 3:3)
To be saved and born again, God calls us to repent and put our faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour.
"And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent" (Acts 17:30)
There are no specific words that result in salvation. It is only faith in Jesus' death and resurrection that can save us. If you understand that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, here is an example of something you could pray. "Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. If I died today, I would be lost and not go to Heaven. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins and rising on the third day. Today, I repent and believe on You alone to save me. In Your Name Jesus I pray. Amen."
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." (1 John 5:13)
In receiving Christ as Saviour, the Bible says we are no longer under condemnation but a new creature and God grants us everlasting life with Him when we die. We are given His righteousness as a gift.
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2 Corinthians 5:21)
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
(Romans 8:1)
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
The Bible says the law was given to us to show us we've fallen short and need the forgiveness and salvation found in the Saviour.
"Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith." (Galatians 3:24)
In Christ, we are saved and born again by the Holy Spirit.
"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1)
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." (John 14:16-17)
The fellowship that was broken in the Garden is freely restored in Christ.
Today, if you have trusted Christ as your personal Saviour, praise the Lord! If you would like to talk about your decision, feel free to send an email to info@sharingtruth.org with any questions, prayer requests or simply to rejoice with you.
In receiving Jesus personally, God's plan is for you to live for Him. As a new Christian, here are a few suggestions to help you on your way:
1) Pray and ask the Lord to lead you.
2) Read the Bible daily to get to know God better. A good starting place is the Book of Matthew or John in the New Testament.
3) Stand on the promises God has given us in His Word.
4) Join and attend a local church (Independent Baptist recommended) where Christ is preached and the Bible takes precedence over man's traditions. There you can be baptized as a public testimony of your faith.
5) Share the Good News about Christ with others.
"And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world." (1 John 4:14)
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
(Romans 8:38-39)
We should not tarry in God's salvation call.
"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."
(Isaiah 55:6-7)
"So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." (Hebrews 9:28)
The Bible says Jesus will one day return as a conquering King.
"But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory." (Mark 13:23-26)
Before His return, the Bible warns of a coming tribulation period. It will end with Jesus' Second Coming to reign in the Millennial Kingdom.
For God's redeemed people throughout the ages, there is coming a blessed home in glory.
The New Creation
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." (Revelation 21:1-3)
The Bible fortells a New Heavens and New Earth where Christ will reign eternally with His people. Satan will be cast into the lake of fire after a final judgment and once again there will be no sin, no death and no suffering. Praise God, the curse of the fall will be no more.
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (Revelation 21:4)
"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." (1 Corinthians 2:9)
